Defence Minister Nirmala Sitaraman here on Monday said that defence corridor in Bundelkhand region will pave way for the development of the area with generating new employment opportunities and stopping the migration of youth in other states.
Addressing the gathering after a meeting with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath about the corridor, Ms Sitaraman said "Jhansi will be center of defence corridor and the ammunition manufactured here will be used by Army. The corridor will halt migration of youth in search of jobs and solve the problem of unemployment in this region." Ms Sitaraman said that arms and ammunition were imported from foreign countries but after the establishment of corridor in this region major consignment will be supplied to Army from here. Small and medium industrialists will have opportunity to establish their industries for manufacture of arms, ammunition, dresses and tanks. Defence Minister said that with the coordination of Center and UP government big platforms for the industries will be developed here. Companies working in corridor will provide training and jobs for engineering, poly-technique and IIT students, she pointed out adding that policies were being harmonised with the requirement for the same.
She said that after Chennai, UP will have defence corridor. Purvanchal and Bundelkhand were not so developed areas of the state and schemes and projects like this with focus on these region will make it a developed state soon.
