In an attempt to strengthen the urban infrastructure and speed up the developmental works in urban local bodies, a special fund will be provided from Telangana Urban Finance and Infrastructure Development Corporation (TUFIDC), Minister for Municipal Administration KT Rama Rao said here on Tuesday.
Mr Rao held a video conference with the District Collectors on Municipalities and Municipal Corporations at the Secretariat.
''Government has a clear vision for the development of ULBs in the state," said the Minister.
About 39 per cent of Telangana's population lives in urban areas. With the proposed creation of new ULBs, more population is expected to come under urban areas,he said.
In accordance with the increasing population in the cities and towns, the government is planning to come up with a route map and detailed plan to provide urban infrastructure to the citizens, he said.
Junction to Junction roads, model markets, footpaths, bus bays, underground sewage system, construction of parks and graveyards are a few works which have been identified and the TUFIDC funds will be utilized for the speedy development of these works. These are the special funds allocated apart from the finance commission and government funds to ULBs. Mr Rao directed Collectors and Joint Collectors to identify the works by the end of March and instructed each officer to adopt a town to take up the developmental works. Minister also asked collectors to go on field visits regularly and monitor the ongoing works. Mr Arvind Kumar, Principal Secretary, Municipal Administration and Urban Development and senior officials from Municipal Administration participated in the video conference.
