Thirteen dead in Uttarakhand bus accident

At least 13 people died on Tuesday and over twelve others were injured in a bus accident in the Almora district of Uttarakhand. The bus was heading towards Ramnagar in Nainital district from Deghat, Almora.

The bus fell into a 250-metre gorge near Totam in Salt block, about 150-km away from district headquarters of Almora. The accident took place around 8.30 am in the morning when bus driver tried to avoid hitting a truck at a sharp bend. Total 26 passengers were travelling on the Garhwal Motors Owners' Union Limited (GMOU) bus.

"Thirteen people have died including the bus driver," District Disaster Management officer, Rakesh Joshi, told UNI.

"Our team has rescued 14 passengers out of that five are admitted in the civil hospital Ramnagar and six have been shifted to Neelkanth Hospital, Haldwani, : Mr Joshi said. UNI BSB SNU 2054
