An irate mob infuriated over the death of a liquor peddler in police encounter pelted stones on Barsoi police station and Kachna police outpost in the district on Wednesday.
Police Superintendent Siddharth Mohan Jain said here that people infuriated over the death of liquor peddler started pelting stones on Barsoi police station and Kachna police out post when a liquor peddler was killed in police's retaliatory action. He said that liquor peddler Mukesh Nonia was killed when police returned fire after he started indiscriminate firing on them. Mr Jain said that he rushed to the spot on receipt of information and brought the situation under control. He said that 87 litres of foreign liquor and a motorcycle were recovered from the spot. SP said that the encounter took place when six peddlers smuggling foreign liquor from West Bengal on three motorcycles were asked to stop by police personnel who were on patrolling duty. He said that peddlers driving two motorcycles made good their escape but another peddler Mukesh on the third bike started firing on police personnel.
