The State Technical Education Department, in a bid to encourage students of polytechnic colleges and industrial training institutes (ITI) to churn out innovative models or projects, has decided to hold exhibitions for showcasing their work.
The department is planning to hold the first exhibition soon at the Kudghat ITI in Tollygunge in Kolkata. The Technical Education, Training and Skill Development minister, while announcing the decision recently, said these exhibitions would give the students to a platform to display their projects for which they put in a lot of hard work. The best projects would be awarded. At present, there are 240 ITIs and more than 162 polytechnic colleges in Bengal, both numbers including State Government-run and private institutes. According to an official of the department, it is also pushing for the reintroduction of apprentices in industries across the state; for example, he said, opportunity exists in the nearly 65 jute mills in the state.
