Delhi as well as the Northern parts of the country, including Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh, were rocked by a moderate intensity earthquake on Wednesday. Director of the Meteorological Office Manmohan Singh said that an earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale hit Northern India at 1230 hrs and its epicentre was the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border. People in Chandigarh also felt the tremors, which lasted a few seconds. The quake also shook several regions of Himachal Pradesh, including Shimla, Solan, Dharamsala, Kangra, Palampur, Bilaspur, Una, Hamirpur and Mandi.
