PPCB develops new pollution control device for furnace units

Taking the matter of deteriorated air quality of Mandi Gobindgarh seriously, the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) developed pollution control device for induction furnace industries of this industrial town.Air quality of Gobindgarh area falls in poor quality zone because of the pollution emitted by furnace industries, besides emissions from other industries and pollution from vehicles.The PPCB developed the new device for induction industries in collaboration with Punjab Science and Technology council. This will help to achieve a better air quality in the area. New system replaces the canopy hood on the crucible of the furnace to side hood along with augmented ID fan capacities, to collect the air emissions for treatment. The Board has got installed upgraded systems, as a model, in two M/s R.P Multimetals and M/s Dasmesh Castings.PPCB Chairman Kahan Singh Pannu said demonstration of new system to all the industrialists of Gobindgarh area was organised yesterday so that the technology could be explained and replicated in all the induction furnaces in Mandi Gobindgarh and Khanna area. Mr Mohinder Gupta, President of Induction Furnace Association, Mandi Gobindgarh, assured the PPCB Chairman that all the industries will upgrade to new technology at the earliest to achieve better air quality standards in the area.All India Steel Re-rollers Association (AISRA) President Vinod Vashist appreciated the efforts of PPCB and conveyed that members of the association shall install the new device in all the units in Punjab.PPCB Chief Engineer Krunesh Garg said the Board will closely monitor the implementation of project in the area.
