Restrictions imposed in downtown, SeK lifted

Restrictions imposed in the downtown and Shehar-e-Khas (SeK) on Saturday, when separatists had called for a general strike against civilian killings in alleged security force actions in the Kashmir, have been lifted on Sunday.There are no restrictions in any part of the city today, police said.The main gates of historic Jamia Masjid, the stronghold of moderate Hurriyat Conference (HC) chairman Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq, which were closed early yesterday morning to prevent any demonstration, are open.Restrictions imposed early yesterday in the SeK and downtown areas falling under the jurisdiction of police station M R Gunj, Nowhatta, Safa Kadal, Khanyar and Rainawari have been lifted. Similar restrictions, also imposed in some areas under police station Maisuma in the civil lines and Kralkhud in the old city, have been lifted. All the additional security forces and state police personnel deployed to strictly implement the restrictions were withdrawn. All main and link roads, which remained closed with barbed wire and by parking bulletproof vehicles in the middle to prevent any vehicular and pedestrian movement, are open today.Traffic was plying on the main Nallahmar road from Nawa Kadal to Khanyar crossing which had been closed at several places with barbed wire.
