Future of three lakh SC students in dock due to non release of PMS fund : PUCA

The Punjab Unaided Colleges Association (PUCA) on Saturday urged the state government to complete the pending audit of Post Matric Scholarship (PMS) at the earliest and release the funds for those colleges where audit have been cleared.PUCA President Dr Anshu Kataria also demanded that Rs 115 crore released by the Union government out of Rs 1,200 crore is a meagre amount. Hence the central government should add more amount to Rs115 crore so that a good amount can be released to the colleges facing financial crunch.Association Senior vice president Amit Sharma said that around Rs 30 crore of the year 2016-17 and around Rs 60 crore of the year 2017-18 committed State Liability amounting to a total of Rs 205 crore is due towards the government.PUCA vice president Gurfateh Singh said that that due to the non payment of over Rs 1200 crore from last two years over three lakh scheduled caste students, parents, teachers, other stakeholders and unaided colleges of Punjab are facing financial hardships.Association Finance Secretary Manmohan Garg said that due to the non release of Rs 1200 crore, more than 100 good colleges accounts have been declared as Non Performing Assets (NPA) and banks have started the process for proceedings for taking possession and auction. PUCA joint secretary Gurkirat Singh said that government should not consider those admissions of those students as fake who left their studies due to various reasons throughout the country.
