Thane villagers open fire at Dombivili Builder

A group of around 25 villagers from Nandivili village of Dombivili, attacked the house of a property developer and fired at the inmates, police said on Saturday. According to Thane Police PRO Sukhada Narkar, at around 0100 hrs on Saturday, the house of a 30-year-old developer was attacked by a mob of villagers, lead by a person, who owed Rs 3.5 lakh to the victim. Manpada police of Dombivili in Kalyan division have registered an offence under Sections 143, 147, 148, 149, 307, 323, 427, 504, 506(2) and 507 of the IPC; Sections 3(25) and 4(25) of the Arms Act and also Sections 37(1)135 of the BP Act, against the alleged accused, Mr Narkar said. Police said the victim had lent Rs 3.5 lakh to one of the accused, who lead the attackers, armed with weapons like stumps, hockey sticks, swords and pistols.The victim had asked the accused to return the money, which irked him. The armed gang came to the house of the victim in the middle of the night and knocked at the door, when he was watching TV. When the victim did not respond, they abused and shouted slogans at him and also peltedstones at his house.The mob smashed the window panes, while one of them fired at the victim from his revolver. When the victim's mother tried to pacify the villagers, one of them manhandled with her, while another one fired two rounds in the air.The other members in the mob brandished the lethal weapons and warned that if anyone comes to the rescue of the victim, then they would also be killed, police added.
