Goa Water Resources Minister Vinod Palyekar on Saturday claimed that Karnataka had already started diverting water from the Mhadei river which would have otherwise flowed into Goa and said the neighbouring state should not misunderstood and misuse letter written by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Karnataka unit chief B S Yeddyurappa. Addressing a press conference in the city after visiting the site of Kalsa Bhandura Nallah work at Kankumbi in Karnataka, he said, "I went with a team of Water Resource Department officials to the site and saw that the work on the head regulator was on and the flow of water which comes to Goa was being stopped and diverted towards Karnataka. The photographs are clear. I have spoken to the Chief Minister and have given him the whole report." "I told reporters in Karnataka that their government is doing a dirty thing, by violating court orders. Karnataka is trying to destroy Goa's identity by diverting the Mhadei water. We will not let them succeed," Palyekar said, adding that the Southern state was indulging in "dirty politics", he said. He said North Goa Collector had written a strong letter to her Belgaum counterpart asking to stop all construction works going on in contravention of the orders of the Mahadayi Water Dispute Tribunal and the Supreme Court. The Minister said Karnataka should not misunderstand and misuse the letter written by the Chief Minister to Mr Yeddyurappa. "They asked me that (Goa CM) has written a letter saying water can be given. I told them it is not an order of the court, so you cannot misuse the contents of the letter," he said, adding the government was mulling of filing contempt of court petition in Supreme Court against the alleged violation.UNI AKM 2215
