Parents of child rape-murder victim oppose quashing of Goondas Act, grant of bail to accused

Parents of the young girl todayopposed the Madras High Court order quashing detentionof paedophile Daswant under the Goondas Act for rapingand murdering a seven-year-old girl Hasini at Mugalivakkam in February this year and grant of bail to him subsequentlyby a Sessions Court.

Quashing the order issued by the Chennai City PoliceCommissioner as the incident created a furore among thepeople, the High court held that there had been unexplainedand inordinate delay caused by authorities in considering a representation from his father.

After the court quashed the Goondas act, Daswant fileda bail plea at the Chengalpattu Sessions Court, which granted him bail last evening and was expected come outof prison soon.

The young girl was reported missing and the Mangadu police during investigations, recovered the burnt body of the girl near a bush in Pallavaram.

Police arrested 22-year-old Daswant, an engineer, whowas the girl's neighbour for raping and killing the girl.

Police said Daswant, after ascertaining that her parents were away, had on February five lured the child while she was playing outside her house and raped her.

When the girl screamed, her killed her, hid her body in his house for a day, took it in a travel bag and threw it under a bridge.
