Following the death of a student in Rayan International School, Puducherry Lt.Governor Kiren Bedi today made surprise visits to three private schools and government schools to find out the modus operandi followed by them in using CCTV cameras for security measures. According to a Raj Nivas release, the Lt.Governor found that the three private schools were equipped with CCTV cameras and it is being monitored from the principal's room. She suggested that cameras be installed in all class rooms and at important passage points and added that it is not to spy on students or staff but to strengthen security. The private schools were advised to draft a combined standard operating system of security measures to be put in place. Stating that no such facilities were there in the government schools, Ms Bedi said that a policy decision need to be taken to install CCTVs in government schools to not only strengthen the security measures but also bring in qualitative improvement in teaching, attendance and class discipline. Also the possibility of installing CCTVs in government schools could be explored through CSR contributions and aids by Philanthropists, she added.UNI PAB CS1925
