Nagaland CM inspect road restoration works in Dimapur

Following the decisions taken at a Coordination Committee meeting on August 3 last for immediate repair and restoration of roads and bridges severely damaged or washed away by the monsoon, the Nagaland Chief Minister T R Zeliang, inspected the temporary road repair and restoration works in Dimapur.According to an official report today said Mr Zeliang inspected the work sites and said the current repair works being undertaken was only for emergency restoration, which would sustain for two to three months. After observing the slow pace of work around Purana Bazaar area, the Mr Zeliang said he has already directed the responsible Departments to redouble machinery works by deploying three-four road rollers. Since it is not feasible to work during daytime due to heavy traffic, he said that he has directed the officials to start works from 8pm and continue till wee hours on all days, including Sundays. Meanwhile, the chief minister disclosed that sanction has already been made for two-lane road from Tragopan Junction-Purana Bazaar and four-lane from Purana Bazaar-Chumukedima. He added that tender has also been floated and contractor(s) selected. Mr Zeliang expressed confidence that in another two-three months all those road works would begin after final approval by National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL). The chief minister was accompanied by Minister Road and Bridges Dr Neikiesalie Nicky Kire, Minister School Education & Parliamentary Affairs Tokheho Yepthomi, Minister for National Highways & Political Affairs G Kaito Aye and Parliamentary Secretary for Irrigation & Flood Control, Tovihoto Aye. Earlier, he also had a brief interaction with youths trained under Year of construction workers (YoCW), who had voluntarily turned up to help in road repair works at Purana Bazaar. The trained youths apprised the CM on the need for imparting another skills training to them in varied fields. Mr Zeliang said following the declaration of the year 2016-17 as the YoCW the Government has funded the youths for undergoing training.Mr Zeliang assured that funds would be provided wherever required if the youth were willing to work. In this regard, he asked the youths to identify the area of training they required, it said. UNI AS RN 2038
