A vehicle owner needs not to pay toll tax at the toll plazas if the required three minutes time for charging toll tax expires in the queue while waiting for his turn. This has been stated by the Chief General Manager (T) of the National Highway Authority, Regional Office, Panchkula in Haryana in a reply to an RTI by a Ludhiana based advocate Hariom Jindal. The NHAI has said that a time of 2 minutes and 50 seconds is required for a vehicle to wait for its turn in the queue. The total waiting time of the waiting vehicles is three minutes and if this time exceeds in waiting, then there is a provision to pass the vehicle free of cost.Though the NHAI had given clear cut instructions to the Toll Plaza contractors collecting tolls about these instructions but the employees at the toll plazas hardly stuck to the conditions, rules and regulations mentioned for the toll plazas following which rep[orts of disputes, clashes and sometimes sabotaging even find space in the headlines of newspapers and TV news channels.
