The Congress in Goa today announced that it will contest on 37 seats in the state Assembly elections due on February 4.
Addressing a press conference at party headquarter in city, All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary and Goa desk in-charge Digvijaya Singh said, ''Out of 40 seats, Congress is contesting on 37 and on three seats we are supporting other candidates. In Porvorim we are supporting Independent candidate Rohan Khanunte, in Panaji Babus Monserrate (a candidate of United Goans Party). In Siolim, PCC (Pradesh CongressCommittee) president (Luizinho Faleiro), CLP (Congress Legislature Party) leader and Dr Chella Kumar (AICC secretary) will consult the local Congress men and decide which candidate to support.''
''The whole idea is to defeat the devisive forces who have not fulfilled their promises, whose statements and policies have divided the people and brought down the growth of the state and added huge amount of debt on the people of Goa,'' Mr Singh added.
