Four fire fighters injured in massive fire at chemical factory

Four fire fighting personnel were injured while dousing a massive fire in a chemical factory and its godown at Ganganagar near Dum Dum airport in North 24 Parganas district, police said today.

Nearly 40 fire fighting engines were deployed to douse the leaping flames, which were firstnoticed around 1900 hrs yesterday, firemen engaged in cooling the smokes said.

The chemical factory located at Jhautolla had fertilizer factory on the ground floor and first and second floor had other manufacturing units like fabric and clothes which totally collapsed in thefire.

The fire took more than 15 hrs to be tamed by the fire fighting men, who also used foamsto douse its flames.

The fire was first caught in the fertilizer section and then leaped to the upper floors quickly.

Four fire fighting men in action fell sick who were then rushed to the hospital.

Police said the owner of the chemical godown, which was illegal, was evading arrest.UNI PC AD1237
