Sitting Cong MLC Amar Rajurkar retains Nanded seat

Sitting Congress MLC Amar Rajurkar won the election to the Nanded segment of the state Legislative Council, held on November 18 and counting of votes was done today, by defeating the only rival Shamsundar Shinde. Of total 472 voters, Mr Rajurkar secured 251 whereas his only rival Mr Shinde, the former government officer, got 208 votes. While, 12 votes proved invalid. One voter did not exercise his right to franchise. Mr Rajurkar is an ardent follower of MPCC chief and MP Ashok Chavan, while Mr Shinde is a close realtive of MLA Pratap Patil-Chikhalikar, who lost the election despite support of Shiv Sena, the BJP and the NCP.
