The Delhi Police today arrested Aam Aadmi Party lawmaker Somnath Bharti for allegedly assaulting security guards of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), police said.
Mr Bharti, 42, has been arrested for allegedly misbehaving with security guards at Delhi's AIIMS hospital earlier this month.
Mr Bharti also tweeted about his arrest and said, "I am in Hauz Khas police station under arrest in Gautam Nagar Kalah." Soon after his arrest, Bharti was granted bail by a Delhi court.
Mr Bharti is already on bail in a case of domestic violence filed by his wife last year.
A complaint was filed by AIIMS alleging that he and 27 of his supporters misbehaved with guards on September 6.
According to the complainant, the mob was provoked by Mr Bharti to damage the fence of the hospital to give access to unauthorised persons inside AIIMS property.
He described the charges as false and asserted that AIIMS denied "legitimate access" to people, but now "The wall has to go in the larger public interest".
Mr Bharti was a minister in the previous Kejriwal government, but he had to resign when he was accused of indulging in vigilantism after he led a midnight raid against some Nigerian women. He is the 13th AAP leader who has been arrested after the formation of a Kejriwal government for the second time in Delhi.
Earlier, he was also charged with leading a midnight raid during which a mob attacked Nigerian women accusing them of running a sex and drugs racket.
AAP leaders, Amanatullah Khan and Sandeep Kumar were earlier arrested on charges of sexual assault and rape-related cases.UNI SM/AR AE 1719
