Former Min, Khadi board vice-chairman KP Noorudheen dies

Khadi board Vice-Chairman and former Forest and Sports minister KP Noorudheen died following cerebral hemmorrhage, due to head injuries and old age illness in a private hospital at Kozhikode, tonight. He was 77. Noorudheen is survived by wife A Asma and four children, including son Dr Firoz and daughters Naseema, Haseena and Sareena.He was admitted to a private hospital at Kannur yesterday due to head injuries and bleeding, after falling on the ground near his house. He was shifted to a private hospital at Kozhikode as his condition worsened since last night.The former minister was elected to Assembly for consecutive times during 1977 to 1991 from Peravoor constituency in the district. He served as minister for Forests and Sports in the Karunakaran-led UDF ministry from 1982 to 1987.The body will be brought to Kannur late night and kept at Mahathma Manidram in Kannur town and later at Gandhi Maidhan in Payyanur tomorrow, for the public to pay their last respects.Burial will be held at Puthiyanghadi Juma Masjid tomorrow evening.Noorudheen began his political career from his home town at Kuttur Peruvamba and became Kannur District Congress Committee (DCC) Secretary and KPCC state unit treasurer in 1972.He had also served as the President of Coir Marketing Federation and Managing Director of "Veekshanam", Congress mouthpiece (during 1976-82), KSFE chairman, North Malabar Development Society President, Payyanur town bank president and President of Mahathma college- Iritty.He also wrote books, including his autobiography of around six decades of political career in "ente rashtriya Jeevatham" and "Aa reethiyil munnotu pogham". The last one was published on May 15, 2015 by the then Chief minister Oommen Chandy.UNI AK RJ 2330
