A suspected Naxal, who had come to Basaguda Police Station in Chhattisgarh's insurgency-affected Bijapur district to surrender, has managed to flee with an AK-47 assault rifle, police said.
"The accused, who identified himself as Maoists' small action team member Madkam Deva (23), a resident of Budgicheru under Basaguda Police Station limits, gave a slip to the cops on duty last night when they were busy verifying his credentials and criminal records to initiate his surrender process," Superintendent of Police KL Dhruv told UNI.
A massive search and combing operation has been launched in Basaguda and its neighbouring police station areas since last night to nab the accused, who is found to have no criminal record with Basaguda police station.
The SP said that a departmental probe had also been ordered to nail the policemen responsible for the lapse leading to the escape of the accused with an AK-47 rifle from the high-security police station, located about 350 km from here. UNI SS PS SB AS1411
