To inculcate habit of conservation of environment amongst the people, the district administration has organised 'Van Mahotsav' (festival of plantation) from July one to seven.
On July one, 7.91 lakh saplings will be planted, informed district collector Suresh Kakani today.
He addressed the district level meeting of officers and employees of various departments organised at Shankarrao Chavan Niyojan Bhavan, where various officers wear present including the chief executive officer of Zilla Parishad Abhimanyu Kale, assistant collector Ravindra Binwade and many others.
Underlining the need of plantation of trees, Mr Kakani said that to mitigate the intensity of environmental change, to tackle the problem of drought, of heavy rainfall and of global warming, it was necessary to conserve the environment by planting and nourishing trees in the country.
To make the Mahotsav a grand success, saplings will be planted at various places including in the premises of the University, colleges, schools, the industrial training institutes, hospitals, industries, courts, gram panchayats and hospitals, he added.
The collector appealed to the concerned officers of the administration to take care of the saplings to be planted in their premises.
Target of planting saplings has been set including 4.80 lakh saplings will be planted by the forest department, 15,000 by the social forestry department, 10,000 by the Forest Development Corporation and 2.86 lakh by various other departments, he stated.UNI XR SS SB AN2302
