The Naam Tamizhar Party would contest 28 of the thirty seats in the May 16 Assembly Election in Puducherry, its convenor Tamizhan Meeran said today. Talking to newspersons here, Mr Meeran said the party will contest in all the 28 Tamil speaking constituencies and not field its candidates in the two Mahe (Malayalam) and Yanam(Telugu) constituencies. Stating that his party would accord top priority for statehood for Puducherry, Mr.Meeran suggested that Mahe and Yanam could be merged with the respective states of Kerala and Andhra Pradesh. He also said the Naam Tamizhar party would initiate steps to curb the influx of North Indian labourers into Puducherry and also the evils of liquor.UNI PAB CS 1407
