A hardcore naxalite carrying reward of Rs 30 lakhs on his head in Jharkhand and Bihar, was killed and an SP (operation) sustained splinter injuries in a fierce encounter with police in naxalite dominated Jamui district late last night.
While the Maoist identified as Chirag, who carried a reward of Rs 25 lakh in Jahrakhand and Rs 5 lakh in Bihar, was killed, the Police Superintendent (operation) Deevakar Narain Pandey survived with a splinter injury in the encounter in a dense forest under Charka Pathar police station in the district.
Mr Pandey told UNI that three rifles including one earlier looted from police and a 9mm sophisticated pistol were recovered from the spot and a few naxalites were injured.
Giving details of the encounter, he said a joint team of CRPF and local police conducted raid at the hide-out of Maoists and in the encounter that followed top Maoist commander was killed.
When the police team raided their hide-out, naxalites opened fire and the police retaliated resulting into a fierce encounter, Mr Pandey said adding that the body of naxalite had been sent for postmortem.
