The International Buddhist Confederation (IBC) is hosting a three days international seminar on Indias north-eastern region and Buddhist heritage to bridge the gap between South Asia and South East Asia here from tomorrow.Secretary General of IBC and Chairman of the Organising Committee of the seminar Ven Lama Lobzang said here today that the seminar will highlight the development opportunity of northeast with her immediate neighbours - Myanmar, Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh.Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar along with Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation of Nepal, Ananda Prasad Pokharel, Member of Parliament of Sri Lanka, Ven Athuraliye Rathana Thero, Secretary of State, Ministry of Fine Arts and Culture of Cambodia, Chuch Phoeurn and Ambassador Sumith Nakandala, the First Secretary General of BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) will address the opening session.

I think we must combine modern technology and education that provides us physical comfort. The ancient Indian knowledge about emotions, about mind and the knowledge of how to tackle these emotions, provide inner peace and inner strength,'' Mr Lobzang said.India has long enunciated her Look East Policy which, in recent times renamed as Act East Policy, has gained further importance, reviving hopes of ending the land-locked isolation of the North Eastern states, and in particular opening up the region to the larger South Asian arena, he opined.Furthermore, the level and quality of bilateral and sub-regional cooperation among India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar and Nepal are key factors for success of critical sectors like natural resource management, disaster management, poverty alleviation, security, counter terrorism. However, there is considerable action deficit in the region, which inhibits real development and the possibility to exploit win-win synergies, he said.UNI BB AD ADG RK1614
