The security forces raided a Maoist camp at Chutkei under Purunakote police station in Satkosia wildlife sanctuary yesterday and seized Maoist materials.

The Maoists, sources said, fled from the camp after an encounter with the security forces. There was no report of injury of any security force personnel, but any casualty or injury on the rebels' side is not known, according to Angul SP Rajesh Pandit.

The encounter took place when the forces raided their camp at Chutkei. The ultras fled the spot after some exchange of fire. Some materials, including wireless sets, were seized from the camp.

Combing operation has been intensified in entire Purunakote police station area since yesterday morning. Details are awaited, Mr.Pandit said. This was the second encounter in the industrial district which was out of reach of the Red rebels till 2013.

In 2013 an encounter took place between the security force and the cadres in a jungle under Chhendipada police station in which a Maoist camp was destroyed by the security forces. The rebels, however, managed to flee.

The movement of Maoists inside dense forest of Satkosia was reported some years back. However, in later part of September this year there were mass movement of armed cadre at some pocket of the sanctuary where they held regular meetings with local villagers. The Maoists also terrorized the forest staff.UNI XC DP PL AE AS1412
