CEO orders probe into alleged scam in MNREGS works

Palghar Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Dileep Shinde has ordered a probe into the alleged fraud in the MNREGS works in the Vikramgadh taluka of the district.

Yesterday, the order of the CEO comes in the wake of complaint lodged with him by the leaders of the Shramajivi Sanghatana who carried out inspection of the works in the taluka vis a vis the labour employedand wages paid to them.

Sanghatana President and former MLA Vivek Pandit and joint secretary Vijay jadhav, met the CEO and apprised him of the extent of the scam and demanded action against those responsible for the scam which ran into several lakhs of rupees. The leaders of the Sanghatana quoted certain examples of the scam where the work on the road of Alonda-Dalvi pada was shown as started last week itself, but it was yet to be initiated. The wages had been transferred on ghost accounts of the persons who were not alive at all.

In certain cases, one lady, who runs a mess and earns a sizable income, has been shown as employed as a labourer in the MNREGS works Pandit said and added that this is only a tip of an iceberg and many more such scams would be unearthed. All those involved in the racket and scam should be brought to book, he demanded.

In this connection, the delegation also met the district collector and sought immediate action as the region fell in the constituency of the guardian minister and the tribal development minister Vishnu Savra, Mr Pandit said.UNI XR RB KU SV SB1425
