Jalandhar | Saturday, Jun 20 2015 IST
Veteran journalist and former Rajya Sabha member Jagjit Singh Anand consigned to flames at model town this afternoon. People in thousands paid their tributes to the departed leader before he was put to flames. Known for his simplicity, the 94 year communist leader had served the party newspaper 'Nawan Zamana', a Punjabi daily publishing from Jalandhar as its founder-editor since 1963. He was a member of the Rajya Sabha from 1974 to 1980. The present look of the newspaper is the gift of his hard work which not only took the paper to heights but also made it a paper of all walks of life rather than to leave it for the labour class. Anand was admitted to a local private hospital after he suffered a brain stroke three days ago where he breathed his last night.UNI XC DB RSA SK2213
