784 bottles of flood-affected jam seized in Srinagar

Continuing its drive against sale of flood-affected food items in Kashmir, authorities today seized 784 bottles of mixed fruit jam from a manufacturing unit at Food Park Industrial Estates Khunmoh here.An official spokesperson here today said that a team of Food Safety Officers headed by the Assistant Commissioner Food Safety, Srinagar did a routine inspection of Food Park Industrial Estates Khunmoh. During checking, the team was surprised to notice that a manufacturer of Pickle, Jam and Jellies was relabeling mixed fruit jam bottles having net weight 500 grams with date of manufacture March 2014 and January 2015.The whole stock appeared to be flood contaminated, he said, adding that the proprietor confessed that he had himself put this whole stock in the muddy water so that his insurance claim is settled as victim of flood.The whole stock, which comprised 784 bottles of mixed fruit jams with Brand name ''Kashmir Kissan'' was seized and samples of the same were sent to food analyst Kashmir for analytical purpose, he said. Meanwhile, following complaints that in some areas of Srinagar city, flood affected juices and carbonated water are being sold to the consumers, the department has intensified checking in the summer capital, he added. Several hundred quintals of flood affected eatables and other articles were seized and destroyed by the authorities in the Kashmir valley post September last year floods.UNI BAS QAB SV RAI1016
