Meghalaya to celebrate Women's Day with music BY girls' bands

The International Women's Day will becelebrated in a different way this time in Meghalaya. SureWaves MediaTech, a media convergence pioneer, hastoday announced the launch of a unique concert property'Loud and Clear', to mark the occasion of InternationalWomen's Day. The concert which will be held at Polo Grounds onFebruary 28 will feature three all-women bands of the fourparticipating bands from the North East. The event is aimed at celebrating womanhood and will seea line-up of bands which features representation of multipleregions of the North East. The participating bands include Tetseo Sisters - aquartet of sisters from Nagaland, Minute of Decay - anall-women band from Manipur which specialises in ClassicRock and Indie folk music, The Vinyl Record - an all-womenband from Arunachal Pradesh and Soulmate - a popular bluesrock band from Shillong. Supported by Meghalaya State Women Commission, theconcert signifies social achievement, empowerment andindependence of not one woman but of a group. 'The women bands will spread a key message of womenempowerment through music, which has long proven to be themost effective tool to connect with the masses,' MandarPatwardhan, Chief Operating Officer of SureWaves said. Commenting on this initiative, Meghalaya State Commissionfor Women's chairperson, Theilin Phanbuh said, 'ThoughMeghalaya is a matrilineal society, women here still have tostruggle to claim their rights and they face different kindof violation both in the private and public space. Music isconsidered to be the best medium to reach out to youngpeople. I am hopeful that through this music concert, wewill be able to spread the message of rights, equality, non-discrimination and respect for women and girls.' 'Loud and Clear' will be telecast on the vast number ofchannels under the SureWaves Spot TV Network in the NorthEast region on a prime time slot on International Women'sDay, on March 8.UNI RRK BM SY AN1358
