Renowned poet and Sahitya Akademi Award winner Hirendra Nath Dutta has been chosen for the 25th Assam Valley Literary Award, for the year 2014.

The Assam Valley Literary Award is given by the Williamson Magor Education Trust, with the purpose of giving an impetus to education and cultural progress within the state.

The Award will be formally conferred on Mr Dutta in March next, a statement said here today.

Mr Dutta has to his credit several collections of poems, two collection of critical essays and has also edited an anthology of Assamese poetry.

His poetry is marked by unusual and impressive imagery, density of form and his own characteristic poetic diction that manages to project the tremor and confusions of our age without being cynical.

Recipient of Sahitya Akademi Award in 2004 and Padmanath Vidya Vinod Smriti Sahiyta Puraskar in 2013, Mr Dutta has participated in several poets' meets across the country. UNI SG RD1439 NNNN
