Amrita University will host the prestigious 6th IEEE International Conference on Technology for Education (T4E) to bring together researchers, visionaries and practitioners in the areas of education and technology on a common platform to discuss the role of technology for making education relevant and bridging the rural-urban divide. The four-day conference, beginning tomorrow, will be held at the University's Kollam campus.
Dr S V Raghavan, Scientific Secretary, Office of the Principal Scientific Advisor, Government of India, will inaugurate the conference. He is also a Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, IIT Madras, Chennai and an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Computer Science in IIT Delhi. 'This is for the first time that the event is being held in Kerala. In the past, the prestigious conference has been hosted at various IITs,' said a spokesperson of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham (Amrita University). The conference will have wide participation of renowned researchers, government department heads, technology leaders from the industry and faculty from all over the world. The focus areas of the conference are development of technologies to support education; innovative use of ICT for content development and classroom use; bridging urban-rural gap in education; -learning in vernacular language; game-based learning; computer aided evaluation; open online learning; pedagogies for remote and e-learning; and curriculum design for technology-enhanced learning. Some other issues which will come up for deliberations at the conference include learning analytics, hand-held device-based learning, cognition and learning technologies, role of cognition in education, growth and impact of the Open Educational Resources movement; techniques and standards for learning resources, semantic web technologies in education, impact of social networks on learning and virtual/online experimentation and scalable solutions. Sameer Sahasrabudhe and Rwitajit Majumdar (IIT Mumbai); Barry Sponder, Central Connecticut State University, USA; Anon Ray and Thirumal Ravula, IIIT Hyderabad; Viraj Kumar, PES University, Bengaluru; Dr. Erkki Sutinen, professor of Computer Science at the University of Eastern Finland; Dr. Sanjay Chandrasekharan, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai.; Stephen Downes, a designer and commentator in the fields of online learning and new media; and Prof. Kong Siu Cheung, the Hong Kong Institute of Education, feature in the list of speakers. There will also be panel discussions on topics like: Serious Games and Virtual Devices; Future of Online Education in India; and Innovation Pedagogy: adaptive Inter-Disciplinary Curriculum. As a pre-conference event, a workshop was organised today at AIMS, Kochi on 'Future of Online Training', which was addressed by Padma Shri Prof Deepak Phatak and Prof. Gaitonde , IIT Mumbai.
