Officials of the Konkan Region Food and Drugs Administration have registered criminal offences against five, for adulterated and unfit milk, according to FDA Joint Commissioner SS Deshmukh.
In an official release here today Deshmukh said that following adulteration drives carried out in Jalgaon, Kolhapur and Mumbai, FDA authorities are now alert and attentive towards Thane, where a special drive was undertaken recently.
"A total of 81 milk samples from the producers, supplier, and retail suppliers were examined during the special drive and of these, 6 samples were found unfit for human consumption," he said.
The unfit and adulterated samples belonged to renowned brands --Government Milk Scheme, Khopoli, Raigadh; Kolhapur Zilla Sahakari Uptpadak Sangh, Vashi, Turbhe, Navi Mumbai; BJ Chitale, Bhilwadi Station, Sangli; Gujarat Co-op Milk Federation, Boisar, Palghar;Vasundara Dairy, Boisar, Palghar; and Mahananda Dairy, Mumbai.
Offences have been registered with the local police against Dattajairao N Pawar, Supervisor of Government Milk Scheme; Nizammuddi Gayamuddin Khan, owner of Sirahaiji Dugdhalaya and General Stores in Khopoli, Raigadh; Salesman Shivram Govardanji Gujar and retailer Kisanlal Govardanji Gujar, both of Devnarayan Dairy Farm in Vasai; and Gani Hazji Bashir Memon, owner of Aftab Milk Suppliers in Boisar, Palghar.
"Stringent action, including filing of criminal offences will be lodged against those not following standards, violating regulations and whose products are found adulterated and unfit for human consumption," he added.
Deshmukh further declared that a state level meeting of all milk producers and repackers will be undertaken on Dec 23 in Mumbai, to educate them on the various ways and means to avoid adulteration.
