A two-day National Seminar on meternal and newborn mortality will be organised by the Women's and Children's Health Research unit of KLE University's Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC) here, from September 5.
The seminar would provide an overview of the completed and ongoing research projects.
The key focus of the seminar is to share with various stakeholders, academicians, policy makers, representatives of national and international agencies working in the area of MNCH research, officials of the Ministry of Health, the evidence emanating from the research studies implemented by JNMC research unit in Belgam, Bagalkot and Bijapur districts.
A release said under a global project the university was developing sustainable service delivery models in the neonatal health care. Partnering with Christiana Care Health Systems, DE, USA, JNMC multi-disciplinary research team has implemented community based research for improving maternal, neonatal, infant and early childhood health in Karnataka.
Dr Sharana Prakash Patil, Medical Education Minister of Karnataka, will be the chief guest of the seminar.
Dr Marian Koso Thomas, Programme Officer NICHD Global Network, Bethesdo MD, USA, Dr Richard Derman USA and Dr Dennis Wallace senior statistician, RTI International USA, would also attend.
More than 400 delegates, including the officials from ICMR, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Karnataka, representatives from NIH and US universities and senior obstetricians and pediatricians from various medical colleges would also participate in the deliberations, the release said.
