UP CM calls for social media help in governance

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today said to benefit the common man, latest technology should be assimilated in governance.

Adding that the social media was an important and effective tool in the hands of the people's representative to gauge their minds and also send across their viewpoint.

Chief Minister was speaking after inaugurating a workshop on 'Social Media for Democracy' at his official residence here today. Ministers in the state government and legislators took part in the workshop. The event was addressed by representatives of social networking majors. The event was held under the aegis of Fifth Estate Trust, Digital Empowerment Foundation and India Development Alternatives Foundation.

People's representatives were informed how social media could play a pivotal role in helping the people and understanding their needs.

During the workshop, Mr Rahul Khursheed of Twitter India informed the participants of the use of Twitter by politicians across the world.

Mr Piyush Poddar of Google India informed the legislators on the benefits of the official website and informed them how they can upload videos on youtube and reach out to people. He also informed them of making profiles on facebook and google plus. Google India's Ms Fatima Alam and Mr Joshua Amirthsingh also elaborated on the reach and effectiveness of social media for people's representatives. Digital Empowerment Foundation's Mr Devendra Singh Bhadoria and Ms Rucha Deshpande informed about how to connect with people in their constituencies through the social media. Speakers also informed the participants how 'whatsapp' was effective for connecting with the masses.

Chief Advisor of Fifth Estate Trust Mr Venkatesh Ramkrishnan and Managing Director Ms Pallavi Gupta also expressed their views at the workshop. UNI MB SY SB2102 NNNN
