Army rescued nine people who were trapped under about ten feet of snow avalanche in the frontier district of Kupwara in Jammu and Kashmir.
Defence ministry spokesman Lt Colonel N N Joshi today said here that a message was received yesterday afternoon at 1620 hrs that nine people, including women and children, travelling in a vehicle got struck after an avalanche hit the area at Nasta Chun pass. Army Avalanche Rescue Team (AART) was immediately rushed from nearby camp, he said adding within 15 minutes the team was able to successfully extricate all nine passengers from under ten feet of snow. These passengers were then taken to the Nasta Chun Pass camp and were provided with medical help, hot beverages and food.
