Two persons were killed when they were buried under a snow avalanche in Sonamarg area on Srinagar-Leh national highway, closed since December last year due to accumulation of heavy snow.

Official sources said two persons Mohammad Baker and Javid Ahmad had left border town of Kargil for Sonamarg on foot on April 7, as the highway remained closed.

However, when they did not reach Sonamarg, a missing complaint was lodged in police station Kargil.

Later rescue teams were rushed from Kargil and Sonamarg, they said adding body of one of the missing person Baker was recovered from under a snow avalanche at Neelgrah, 8 km from Sonamarg.
