Allahabad | Tuesday, Mar 11 2014 IST
Senior BSP leader and former Uttar Pradesh minister Nand Gopal Gupta alias 'Nandi' and his wife Abhilasha, who is the Mayor of Allahabad, have been expelled from the party for their alleged anti-party activities.

BSP zonal coordinator Vijay Pratap announced the expulsion of the couple here yesterday.

He said the couple failed to pay heed to repeated warnings about abiding by the party discipline.

But Mr Gupta alleged that the action was taken at the behest of Keshri Devi Patel', a former Zila Panchayat Chairperson who is the BSP's candidate from Allahabad Lok Sabha constituency.

The couple stressed that they still have great respect for Ms Mayawati, the party president and alleged that Keshri Devi was hatching conspiracy to throw out the dedicated party workers from the BSP.

Mr Gupta's wife Abhilasha is the youngest Mayor of the city.

However, sources close to the former BSP leader claimed that Mr Gupta could join BJP. UNI MB RJ AS1739 NNNN
