Madhya Pradesh Revenue and Rehabilitation Minister Karan Singh Verma has said crops in over 3.48 lakh hectares in 37 districts have been affected by hailstorm that struck the state in February, official sources said today.
The Minister directed concerning officers to distribute compensation in hailstorm-affected district speedily.
Similarly, 6,158 villages have been affected by cold wave and frost in 20 districts in January. Compensation worth about Rs 78 crore has so far been distributed in hailstorm and frost-affected people. Process of distribution of compensation is still underway.
As many as 4,097 villages have been affected by hailstorm. Compensation worth Rs 12 lakh has been given to eight families suffering loss of life due to hailstorm and lightning.
Crops in about 1, 77, 582 ha area have also been affected by frost. Number of frost-affected farmers is 1, 88,355.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced to suspend loan recovery from affected peasants, convert their short-term loan to medium-term ones, pay loan interest for this period through government, waive surcharge on electricity bills of affected farmers and extend benefit of crop insurance scheme to them, the sources added.
