ECoR to double the fine for spitting in railway station

East Coast Railway (ECoR) is considering to double the fine for spitting and littering in Railway stations under its jurisdiction in a bid to keep the stations neat and clean. The ECoR is at present collecting a fine of Rs 100 for spitting and littering at 'A1' Class Stations like Bhubaneswar, Puri and Visakhapatnam, Rs. 50/- at 'A' Class Stations like Bhadrak, Brahmapur, Cuttack, Jajpur-Keonjhar Road, Khurda Road, Palasa, Rayagada, Srikakulam Road, Vizianagaram and Sambalpur and Rs.30/-at rest of the stations. An awareness campaign had also been undertaken to sensitise the people about the cleanliness drive through Posters, Banners, Display advertisements in different print and electronic media. ECoR sources here said as many as 2040 people were fined for spitting and littering at Railway premises in less than a month during the cleanliness and anti-spitting drive and a fine of 1,28,570/- collected from them. All the Sr. Divisional Commercial Managers of different Divisions of ECoR were advised to depute special task force to stop spitting and littering in Railway premises. A strict vigil on spitting and cleanliness was kept to aware the passengers and rail users for cleanliness at railway premises. Station Managers, Ticket Collectors of Commercial Department or equivalent rank of Operating Department, Special Squard, RPF and officials were authorized to look in to this matter seriously and maintain cleanliness at Station premises and in trains. As per the latest Railways guidelines any persons found bathing, spitting, urinating, defecating, feeding animals/birds, repairing or washing of vehicles, utensils/clothes or any other objects or keep any type of storage in any railway premises or put up any posture or write and draw anything in any compartment, carriage of railways, or indulging in defacing railway property shall be punished and fined.
