Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK Supremo J Jayalalithaa today inaugurated the renovated memorial of the party founder and her political mentor 'MGR', which is one of the famous landmarks in the city.

The memorial, spread over 8.25 acre area on the beach front that attracts thousands of tourists and visitors, has been given a facelift at a cost of Rs 3.40 crore. After unveiling the renovated memorial, Ms Jayalalithaa along with senior party leaders, paid floral tributes at the memorial.

The unique feature of the renovation work was provision of a new entrance sporting the party's two leaves symbol and pegasus, the horse from Greek mythology. An official press release here said Korean grass has been used for landscaping the open area around the memorial, dotted with decorative plants like Palmyra alpha, Date palm, Spider lily and Atinium.

The pathway in the middle of the memorial has been laid with marble slabs. Rust-free stainless steel handles have been fixed around the memorial. Apart from a fountain, the memorial has been illuminated with decorative lamps to add glitter. An overhead tower with lights has also been installed both at the entrance and on the arch.
