Several organisations today strongly opposed the centre informing the Supreme Court that the spent fuel from the Kudankulam nuclear power plant would be dumped in the now defunct Kolar Gold Mines, about 110 km from here, saying that it would adversely affect the health of the people in Kolar district. Former legislator and Janata Dal (S) leader Bhaktavatsalam and Kolar Gold Fields City Corporation council President Dayanand today said several organisations and the JD(S) had called for KGF tomorrow to protest the centre's move. They slammed the centre giving undertaking to the apex court that the spent fuel from Kudankulam plant in Tamil Nadu would be safely disposed off in the gold mines which has some deepest mines in the World as it would badly affect the health of the people in the area.

However, extraction of gold in this mine opened by the then British government over 150 years ago has been stopped for more than 20 years. MORE UNI RS VK VV AK1722 NNNN
