UP police seize Rs 1.60 crore during checking drive

Uttar Pradesh police today seized cash worth over Rs 1.60 crore from different places during checking drive in the state. Ahead of the next month s seven-phase state polls, police have seized more than Rs 9.5 crore and 25 kg silver from different places during frisking drives so far. According to police, Rs 22.50 lakh were recovered from a Safari car near a Engineering College roundabout in the state capital today. Similarly Rs 64 lakhs were seized in Baghpat, Rs 9.17 lakh in Auriya, Rs 14.98 lakh in Ambedkarngar, Rs 10.45 lakh in Kheri, Rs 8.20 lakh in Muzaffarnagar, Rs 3.89 lakh in Azamgarh,Rs 3.50 lakh in Sultanpur, Rs 4.50 lakh in Shamli and Rs 2.57 lakh in Hathras. Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) S Y Qurashi has applealed to the people not to carry large quantity of cash as they could find themselves in trouble without valid documents about their cash. Such drive has been launched to prevent use of black money in the UP elections, he said. UNI MB RH NS1912
