MDMK volunteers destroy film rolls of "DAM 999' Chennai | Tuesday, Nov 22 2011 IST
Volunteers of Marumalarchi DMK (MDMK) today barged into a cinema house and destroyed the film rolls of the film on Mullaperiyar dam in Kerala Dam 999 , which is scheduled for release on November 25. Hours after MDMK General Secretary Vaiko came out with a statement urging the centre to ban the film as it tried to justify Kerala s move to replace the Mullaperiyar dam with a new one, his partymen, led by Mallai Sathya, barged into the theatre and destroyed the prints. Tension ran high as they managed to bring out the cannes and pulled out the film rolls, even as police tried to prevent them. They also pelted stones, damaging the glass panes in the threatre. Mr Vaiko alleged that the film which portrays a dam disaster, was produced only to justify the Kerala government s move to destroy the Mullaperiyar dam and build a new one, which, he contended would spell doom to the southern states.
