Agni Natchathiram begins tomorrow Chennai | Tuesday, May 3 2011 IST
Peak summer season 'Kathiri' or 'Agni Natchathiram' begins in Tamil Nadu tomorrow. The 26-day peak summer, during which the mercury level is expected to hover beyond the 40 degree mark, will end on May 29. Doctors have advised the public to ensure that they do not get dehydrated and increase their liquid intake in form of fruits, juices and water. Already people in several parts of Tamil Nadu are reeling under oppressive heat for the last ten days with mercury already touching 40 degrees in districts like Vellore. The maximum temperature reported during last year's Kathiri season was around 43 degrees in the district. The Chennai City recorded a high of 40.9 Degrees on May 29 last year, Met office sources told UNI. Though a short spell of rain was reported a few days back due to an upper air circulation over Kanniyakumari, the people of this burgeoning metropolis are already reeling under intense heat conditions. -- (UNI) -- 03MS13.xml
