What is the common element between Taare Zameen Par, which lost out the race for an award at the Oscars, and Slumdog Millionaire, a hot favourite at the prestigious awards with ten Oscar nominations in its kitty? Besides the fact that both 'Taare Zameen Par' and 'Slumdog Millionaire' are films with an Indian backdrop, the films have another common element.

Not many people know that the actor playing the childhood role of Jamaal Malik, the protagonist of Slumdog Millionaire, is the same actor who played the role of Darsheel Safary's friend in Taare Zameen Par.

Tanay Chheda, the child actor who played the role of Rajan Damodran, Darsheel's friend in the boarding school, in Taare Zameen Par, plays the part from the earlier days of central protagonist Jamaal in Slumdog Millionaire.

Dev Patel is there from start to finish of the movie as he narrates his childhood tale while Tanay comes into picture once the drama shifts from the youngest Jamaal (played by Ayush Mahesh Khedekar) to the teenage Jamaal. As a boy from the slums who tries to find his bearings in his growing up years and avoids the road of crime by doing petty jobs all over the country, Tanay Chheda has come up with an impressive performance in Slumdog Millionaire.

For his praiseworthy performance, Tanay has been nominated in quite a few award ceremonies internationally with most prominent and prestigious being Black Reel (Best Ensemble), Screen Actors Guild Awards (Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture). Trade sources said Tanay, who was earlier also seen in Farhan Akhtar's Shah Rukh Khan starrer 'Don - The Chase Begins Again', is expected to feature in quite a few major projects after the international success of 'Slumdog Millionaire'.

Tanay had an impressive presence in 'Taare Zameen Par'. He had some screen presence in the second half where he also had a few scenes to enact with Aamir Khan. So, the Indian connection in 'Slumdog Millionaire', which has bagged ten Oscar nominations, including three for music maestro A R Rahman and one for Gulzar for his lyrics for the song 'Jai Ho', is not just restricted to Anil Kapoor, Irrfan Khan, Rahman, Resul Pookutty and Saurabh Shukla.
