Nutritionist Thangam Philip passes away

Renowned nutritionist Thangam Philip died at a private hospital here today following a cardiac arrest. Ms Philip was the Principal Emeritus of the Institute of Hotel Management Catering Technology and Applied Nutrition, Mumbai.
She was one of 38 distinguished women in the world and one of the three from India invited by the United Nations to be portrayed on the FAO Ceres Medal. Ms Philip was honoured with Padmasri in 1976 for her service to the development of hotel and catering education. She was betowed with Knighthood of the Order of ''Cordon Bleu Du Sant Esprit' of France in 1982.
Ms philip had written several books on cookery and hotel industry, which were prescribed texts for catering students. She had been living here after retiring from Dadar Catering College in 1986
