Goa Governor S S Sidhu today asked the state authorities to promote its own brand of world-class tourism on the lines of Kerala and the North-East.

In his maiden press conference immediately after being sworn in as the 14th Governor of the state, Dr Sidhu favoured ''sustainable, community-oriented and responsible tourism'' in the state.

''Tourism and civil aviation are two sides of the same coin and one needs the development of both like Kerala and North Eastern states, which are promoting the states as Paradise Unexplored,'' he said.

Stating that he was aware of the proposed international airport at Mopa in North Goa under a public private partnership (PPP) mode, the Governor said the administration should bring about ''convergence and consensus of opinion'' on the airport.

He stressed the importance of involving all stakeholders, including various local communities, in the development of tourism while striking a balance between tourism, environment and ecology.

This form of responsible tourism would ensure socio-economic development of the state besides inclusive growth, Mr Sidhu said.

The Governor observed that the state could envisage further development of rule of law prevailed through good governance and clean administration.

''I am a result-oriented man committed to comprehensive development of the state,'' he claimed.
