Bank robbed of crores

Unaccounted quantity of jewellery and cash were looted from the Chelembra branch of the North Malabar Gramin Bank, police said today.

The articles were stolen from the strong room of the branch at Idimoozhikkal in the district, they said.

The services of forensic experts have been requisitioned, they said, adding that the exact amount of loss would be worked out after going through the records.

Unconfirmed reports, however, said jewellery worth Rs 4.25 crore and Rs 24 lakh in cash were missing.

Senior police officers were camping at the site to supervise investigations.
