Naveen urges PM to open IIT, IIM & IIIT in Orissa

Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to open an Indian Institute of Technology, an Indian Institute of Management and an Indian Institute of Information Technology in the state.

In a letter to the Prime Minister, Mr Patnaik stressed the need for opening these high standard technical and management schools in Orissa owing to rapid industrialisation in the state.

The Chief Minister said huge capital investment in the steel, aluminium and power sector had brought a rapid development in the industry sector in the state and generated possibility of high growth rate in the automobile, petrochemcials and Information Technology sectors.

Keeping the needs of these industries, proper planning for the development of human resources in the state was a must, Mr Patnaik said in his letter.

The state government, he said, with the help of private sectors had already prepared a plan for the development of various technical and vocational institutions in the state.

The Chief Minister said in view of the Centre's decision to open eight new IIT, seven IIM,5 IISER,20 IIIT and 30 Central Universities in the country in the coming years, steps should be initiated for setting up of these prestigious central institutions in Orissa.
